The Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce will host a special luncheon on Wednesday, May 30 focusing on security and safety concerns in the Long Island Region. The luncheon program titled “How Safe Are We?” will feature an address by Michael Balboni, New York State Deputy Secretary for Public Safety. Governor Eliot Spitzer appointed Deputy Secretary Balboni to this new statewide position in January 2007. A former New York State Senator, Mr. Balboni has gained a national reputation as one of the country’s leading experts on homeland security and public safety. Mr. Balboni will address a wide range of issues including the changing nature of homeland security threats and our organized response; unique security concerns for the Long Island region; proposed homeland security legislation; and how New York State is preparing for any future terrorist attacks.

In announcing this special luncheon program James V. Kelly, Chairman of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce and CEO & Principal of JVKG said, “Homeland security and in particular the safety and security of the Long Island region is of great concern to all New Yorkers. Our proximity to New York City, our rail system and our waterways are important factors that must be considered in a comprehensive plan for emergency response. Deputy Secretary Balboni is intimately familiar with the Long Island region and our unique demographics and needs. We look forward to his address and to learning about the plan New York State is implementing under his leadership to address homeland security concerns.”

This special program will take place on Wednesday, May 30 from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at Maxwell & Dunne’s, 1600 Round Swamp Road in Plainview. The Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce represents the interests of business and financial industry, not-for-profit corporations and other professionals within the greater Huntington area.
