Mc Quade Joins Certilman Balin’s Labor Practice Group

April 1, East Meadow - Stephen Mc Quade (Manhattan) has joined the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman, LLP, as an associate. He will assist in the representation of the firm's public sector union clients in various judicial, administrative and legislative matters.

Before joining the firm, Mr. Mc Quade was a sole practitioner for seven years. In his own practice, he represented employees in the Fair Labor Standards Act and New York Labor Law overtime and minimum wage claims. He represented clients in minor criminal and traffic offenses, and formed and acted as legal counsel for several New Jersey corporations. He also negotiated contracts and handled sponsorship agreements and trademark matters for a professional boxer.

In addition, Mr. Mc Quade held the position of trial examiner for the New York City Office of Collective Bargaining from 2004 until 2011. He drafted decisions involving issues of improper practices, arbitrability, and duty of fair representation for approval by the Board of Collective Bargaining. He also conducted hearings and conferences involving municipal employers and their respective employee organizations.

While in law school, Mr. Mc Quade interned at the National Labor Relations Board. He then worked as an associate for one year in a New Jersey firm and for another year at a New York City firm.

Mr. Mc Quade earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Notre Dame in 1999 and his Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in 2002. As an undergraduate, he was a member of the varsity fencing team.

He chairs the New York County Lawyers' Association Labor Relations and Employment Law Committee and is fluent in Spanish. He is admitted to practice in the states of New York and New Jersey; in the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York; and the U.S. District Court, District of New Jersey.
