Hand in Hand for Seniors, Inc. a new group that helps seniors live independent lives in their own homes, last week received a $5,000 check to further its work from Dentists for a Better Huntington.

Hand in Hand serves residents in Northport, Centerport and Eastern Huntington and began fulltime operations earlier this fall. “This donation is a significant one for us,” said Hand in Hand board chair, Anne Meyer, “for two reasons: It helps our fledgling group get on sturdy financial feet and it recognizes the importance of helping seniors lead independent lives.”

Dentists for a Better Huntington selected Hand in Hand for Seniors as one of its beneficiaries this year because “We recognize that the people who help build our communities deserve to be able to live independently in their own home as long as possible so they can continue to contribute their guidance and wisdom to our communities,” said Dr. Brian O’Lear, president of the Dentists for a Better Huntington. “We hope our contribution will be good for our seniors and enriching for our communities”

Also receiving assistance from the dentists’ group were the Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice of Suffolk, Meals on Wheels of Huntington, Huntington Station Enrichment Center, Salvation Army Veterans Residence at the Northport Veterans Administration Hospital.
